You got that right, Lion. Sheesh! I may get my timelines, dates, etc. wrong, but you will get the idea. To start off with, I did not think Summer would ever get here. I cannot remember now, but I feel like Spring did not really come either. Anyway, I remember the month of June! Haha.
Rain, Rain, Rain! I think it may be our meteorologist’s fault. He posted online that we did not get enough rain and we were in a drought. Now we are having continual flood warnings it feels like. All he had to do was mention it and we got the rain!
The ground is saturated. I imagine the farmers are not having the best of times. This last rain …. oh my! We were out and the streets were immediately flooded. The streets looked like rivers. Cars were flooding (we used to call it that) but maybe they say drowning out now. Anyway, they just stopped running. You had to drive slowly to not throw that much water up at once and get your motor wet. Turns out, we had like 3.5 or 4 inches in 30 minutes. The ground could not have held it. Saturated like it is would be even worse.
We live in a split level home. About a week or two after we moved in, our home flooded! Over the years, my husband has dug trenches and put in gravel and pipes and diverted the water away from our house. When it would flood again, he would see where it came in and dig again. It has since stopped flooding. We also have a sump pump. We are set to go.
However, if anyone gets that much rain that soon and there is a hole in the ground (basement) you will more than likely get some water. Well in this flood, we tried so hard to get home but had to keep detouring, if you will. We pulled in the drive and magically, the rain stopped. God graciously let us go to the house without getting soaked like we did when we left where we were.
There was not one drop of water in our house! Well, there were a few drops, but it was from our little dog. We had pads out for her, but I guess she was acting out for us leaving her in a storm alone! We have only tile and hard wood floors, so no damage was really done by her.
I have not mentioned the tornado, Dorothy. The HUGE tornado on 06/17/2026. They called it an EF2. It tracked for 13.8 miles and was approximately 800 yards wide. The tornado was rain wrapped and was hidden behind a wall of rain and hail. This information is quoted from what I have read. It was a pretty scary time. The sirens were wailing forever it felt like. We do have that basement, but since it is a split level home, we are only protected half way it feels like.
People were so scared and had every right to be. Members of our family came over just to be together since we were all so frightened. There were 4 of them and they spent the night with us. They had not been here long and wouldn’t you know it, the power went out! It was out all night and most of the next day. Power company employees from different states came to town to help out. Most people had power the next day or in a few days. Several other cities, even cities in different states came to town to help. The kindness and caring was unbelievable. I think the news said no injuries were sustained during this weather. We do not get a tornado often. Someone on the news said tornado alley moved to include us. I do not feel the need to keep being included in these types of things. It can go back to where it was.
We are very thankful that we were all safe. Some of us had a LOT of damage. That is no fun, but they are digging out.
There will be a post following about a special light we used when the power was out.
