BUTTER!!!!!!

You have heard, “I can’t believe it’s not butter!” Well, I can’t believe I made butter!! It is SOOOOOO easy and SOOOOOOOOO good. The recipe was correct, I will not buy butter again! With just the two of us, it will last long enough. The butter I made turned out to be approximately 4 sticks.

All you do is get some heavy whipping cream. It has to be about 40% fat so that would be Land O Lakes. Probably others are available, but I know that Great Value is only 36%. However, if you google if you can make butter with Great Value whipping cream, it will say yes you can.

So, you pour the cold whipping cream in the mixer and mix on high speed. Watch the stages, the cream turns into whipped cream, then stiff peaks and then it turns yellow and will turn into butter. It separates into butter and liquid buttermilk. I tasted the buttermilk, it does NOT taste like the buttermilk that you buy. This tastes good! I am sure some of you do like buttermilk, but I do not, that is why I say that this is good! Haha. I really did not believe it was this easy to make butter as my mother used a churn and as a child, it seemed hard to me. I do not know what all she went through to make it, but I remember it seemed hard. So, I did not believe it would actually work. In fact, when I was thinking, oh my gosh, it IS yellow, I had to go get a light and shine in the mixer to make sure I was not imagining it.

Then, you drain the liquid and you can save the milk if you want to. I had read that you could use it in recipes and they were so much better. You take the butter and wrap it in cheese cloth and squeeze out as much liquid as you can. You then wash it in ice cold water. I used a bowl filled with ice cubes. Continue squeezing the butter until the water runs clear. (Probably better hurry so your hands do not freeze! haha.) If you want your butter to be salted, knead in some salt. I used a little less than 1/8 to 1/4 tsp.

Remove the butter from the bowl and the cheesecloth and form however you want. I made a block. It fit into my butter container to be about as much as 4 sticks. The butter was so creamy. MMMMM. I think it would be wonderful on baked potatoes. I cannot wait to try it on those. I am one of those children who did not like macaroni and cheese. My mother always saved some noodles back and added a little butter. That turned out to be my favorite. I still eat those today. I imagine the noodles will be much better with this butter. In fact, I imagine everything would. You should try this. It took about 10 to 15 minutes. It is so worth it!!!!

Let me know if you try the butter and let me know how much you love it. (I bet most of you have already tried it, I am so behind the times.)

Along Came A Spider . . .

So, it is fall and with fall comes bugs, insects, creepy crawlers. We all know how I feel about them. I would like to move to a new house when I spot one. Who would have thought or even imagined this could have happened.

I was at the kitchen sink peeling potatoes. They were the smaller potatoes. I was merely slicing off the “nasty parts” and leaving the peelings on and then quartering them if they were large enough to do so. I was making green beans, ham and potatoes. I saw something out of the corner of my eye that looked huge.

I backed up, sort of shook my head and came back up to the sink. There was a “blonde” spider lowering himself down in spurts. You know how they do, they go down in increments. Boing, boing, boing. Oh my! Ugh! What am I going to do. I grabbed the only thing available, a potato. I am banging and banging on the spider to kill him. Or so I thought. I was not even hitting him. He quickly ran to the front of the sink. I missed again. (This is really good for me because I usually do not kill them. I put a glass or something over them for Wessie to kill when he gets home.) He landed on the floor.

I only had a house slipper type of shoe on. There was not really a sole, it was all a thicker type fabric. I stepped on him anyway. I have no idea if I got him or not. He was so blonde he would have blended in to the shoe. I took of the shoe and inspected it. I could not find it at all.

It was so hard to continue to stand there and finish the potatoes not knowing where he was. I debated and debated on throwing out the weapon and not using it. I totally rinsed him in hot water and peeled away.

On another note, supper was extra good. Might need to add that “special” flavoring again. Haha. NOT!!!!!! Also, an interesting note, Wessie loves that dinner and would not even eat it!
